I have been building a PC a little at a time but I don't earn a lot of money so I have to buy what I can afford when I can afford it, but I try to buy good stuff.
My rig currently has ... Asus 990fx Sabretooth Rev 2, 32Gb of Corsair Vengence RAM, AMD FX8350 Black Edition CPU but only a Nvidia GT640 GPU because graphics cards are expensive so I left that till last.
Now I have a little extra money and it's time to sort out the graphics, I have just bought an EVGA Supernova 1000 PS to cope with the extra workload and I started looking for GPUs ...
I have been getting some advice from a gamer friend of mine, and I mentioned getting a pair of XFX Radeon 4GB R9 380s. www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-xf…
- He told me that XFX were crap, I should also steer clear of Pallit, Zotac and a few others ... Basically leaving me with Asus, Sapphire, MSI and Gigabyte. But I couldn't find any similar opinions on any reviews, in fact the reviews and comments I could see about the XFX were quite favorable.
So I carried on looking and noticed the 8Gb 390s have just come out and I liked the look of the Sapphire Radeon R9 390 Nitro OC. www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-sa…
- And of course he said 'Oooh Sapphire aren't so hot either.'.
So tonight after finding out I've got extra hours coming up and can afford to spend a bit more, (if I give up food for a week or 2
), I decided to order 2 of the 8Gb MSI Radeon R9 390X GAMING www.scan.co.uk/products/8gb-ms…
- Now he says ... (copy&paste from fb messenger)
'they will seriously bottleneck your CPU! your gonna have to upgrade that if your going with these matey'
'cant run 2 x high end GPU's like that on an AMD'
'im not against it, they will be fantastic cards, just saying you wont get anywhere near the benefit of them as your CPU will bottleneck long before the cards will'
'rendering too dude, its all about the physics as well as the raw graphic performance'
'if you render with these, your CPU will give up the ghost!'
'those cards will need to have a CPU that can process the API overhead for I/O when gaming or rendering, as you are now your CPU is not being loaded much as your card and cpu are evenly matched for teraflops range, but once you push these for rendering, the cpu still has to process each frame to the core clock on each card..'
'ive learned a lot about how graphics cards work! they still cant perform any task at load performance if the cpu lags behind'
'youd be better getting 1 card, and spending the rest on a new cpu/m/b'
'you dont need an i7 though, an i5 would be ideal match'
'you know what, you need to test what im saying with one of my R290's and see what your CPU load is like. cos the card will handle way more than your cpu can process and send to it'
THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT, Can it? I thought my 8 Core Processor was quite good ...
Do I listen to this dude? Does he know what he's talking about?? Is he trying to sell me a pair of R9 290s?
I really don't want to spend my rent and find I've wasted my money, so any help would be greatly appreciated
